In a significant development on Tuesday, the Jharkhand High Court has ruled that no coercive measures shall be taken against several key BJP figures, including State President Babulal Marandi, in relation to the case stemming from their participation in a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) rally. The case, which has drawn considerable attention, involves allegations of a violent clash between police and rally participants.
The FIR, filed on August 24 at Lalpur police station, accuses Marandi, Amar Kumar Bauri—who is the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly—Union Minister Sanjay Seth, and former minister Arjun Munda, among others, of involvement in the altercation. The clash occurred during a demonstration held in Ranchi on August 23, where BJP youth wing members protested against what they claim is the injustice of the Hemant Soren government and its unfulfilled election promises.
During the rally, tensions escalated as BJYM workers reportedly breached police barricades, leading to a confrontation. In response, police deployed tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets in an attempt to control the crowd, resulting in injuries to multiple protesters and police officers.
The court’s order aims to ensure that legal proceedings are carried out without undue pressure on the political leaders involved, allowing them to participate in the judicial process freely. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to address the legal complexities of political demonstrations and their repercussions in the state.
