Law is Not Just a Profession, But a Service to Society: Hon’ble The Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha

The Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (CGSLSA), Bilaspur, conducted a 21-day Internship Programme for law students across the state. During the concluding session of the programme, held on 31st August 2024 at the Conference Hall of CGSLSA, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Patron-in-Chief of CGSLSA, virtually addressed the participating law students. He congratulated them on completing the Internship Programme and emphasized the importance of the legal profession.

Justice Sinha remarked, “Remember, law is not just a profession, but a service to society. Always strive to uphold justice, equality, and fairness. Be compassionate, empathetic, and honest in your dealings.”

The Chief Justice also urged upcoming legal professionals to adhere to the principles of justice, equity, and fairness and to ensure that the weaker and marginalized sections of society are not deprived of necessary legal assistance due to their economic, social, or other vulnerabilities. Addressing the students, he said, “Use your skills to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Be a problem-solver, a critical thinker, and a creative solution-finder.”

He further stressed the importance of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in the life of a legal professional, stating, “Success is not just about achieving your goals, but also about how you achieve them. Stay true to your values and always strive to be better versions of yourselves.”

Justice Sinha encouraged the students to be active participants in society, using their knowledge and skills to make a difference in the lives of those around them.

The Internship Programme began on 12th August 2024 and saw participation from law students of various colleges across the state. During the first 15 days, the students visited Jails, Juvenile Justice Boards, District Courts, Child Welfare Committees, and other legal bodies while being associated with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) offices in their respective districts. They later visited the High Court Legal Service Committee (HCLSC) in Bilaspur and subsequently the CGSLSA, where they were informed about the functioning and activities of both HCLSC and SLSA. Law students from different districts greatly benefited from this internship programme.
