Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Transfer of Justice Shamim Ahmed From Allahabad HC to Madras HC

On August 30, 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium reaffirmed its recommendation to transfer Justice Shamim Ahmed, a judge at the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, to the Madras High Court. The initial proposal for transfer, made on August 21, 2024, aimed to facilitate better administration of justice.

The Collegium’s decision followed consultations with a Supreme Court judge familiar with the workings of the Allahabad High Court, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, in accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure.

Justice Shamim Ahmed had submitted a representation on August 22, 2024, requesting reconsideration of his proposed transfer. However, after examining his request, the Collegium concluded that there was no merit in his appeal and decided to reiterate its initial recommendation for his transfer to the Madras High Court. The resolution was signed by Chief Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, Surya Kant, and Hrishikesh Roy.
