Nine Additional Judges of Allahabad High Court Made Permanent, Centre Issues Notification

In a significant development, the Government of India has issued a notification confirming the appointment of nine additional judges of the Allahabad High Court as permanent judges. The notification, dated August 21, 2024, was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice under the authority of Article 217(1) of the Indian Constitution.

The judges who have been elevated to permanent positions are Justices Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi, Manish Kumar Nigam, Anish Kumar Gupta, Ms. Nand Prabha Shukla, Kshitij Shailendra, Vinod Diwakar, Prashant Kumar, Manjive Shukla, and Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal. These appointments are effective from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

This decision comes as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary by filling up vacancies in various high courts across the country. The Allahabad High Court, one of the largest in India, has been grappling with a significant backlog of cases, and the permanent appointment of these judges is expected to enhance the court’s capacity to handle cases more efficiently.

The notification was signed by Jagann Srinivasan, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, and disseminated to all relevant authorities, including the Governor and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, as well as the Chief Justice and Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court.
