The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming by-elections to the Rajya Sabha, fielding Senior Advocate and Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI), Manan Kumar Mishra, as its candidate from Bihar. The elections are scheduled to be held on September 3.
Mishra, a prominent figure in the legal fraternity, has been at the helm of the BCI for several years, playing a key role in the regulation and development of the legal profession in India. Although he has not been overtly affiliated with any political party, his recent statements have indicated a positive stance towards Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs leadership. In March 2022, Mishra publicly congratulated the Prime Minister following the BJP’s victory in assembly elections across four states, suggesting that the results reflected the country’s acceptance of Modi’s leadership.
Alongside Mishra, the BJP has nominated Kiran Choudhary from Haryana, George Kurian from Madhya Pradesh, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura, Mission Ranjan Das and Rameswar Teli from Assam, Mamata Mohanta from Odisha, and Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections.
