In a recent turn of events at the Indore bench of the High Court, a young man was granted bail after being accused of robbery by a district judge following a minor vehicular incident. The High Court’s decision came after the analysis of CCTV footage which showed a dispute but no evidence of robbery.
The case began when District and Sessions Judge Mohit Raghuvanshi registered a robbery complaint against Shailendra Nagar at the Kanadiya police station. Nagar, who was promptly arrested, initially faced denial of bail by the lower court.
According to the complaint, the judge alleged that after a minor collision, a confrontation ensued which he described as a robbery. However, during the High Court hearing, presided over by Justice Subodh Abhyankar, CCTV footage from the sceneโlocated in front of Nagar’s grocery storeโwas reviewed, showing a different story.
Defense attorneys Manish Yadav and Karan Bairagi presented the footage which clearly depicted the judge approaching Nagar’s vehicle after a minor scrape. The entire recording showed a verbal exchange through the car window but nothing resembling a robbery.

In its verdict, the High Court noted, “The CCTV footage only shows an altercation and nothing that suggests a robbery occurred. Given that the accused has no criminal record and the incident occurred right in front of his store, it seems appropriate to grant bail.”
