Lawyer Assassinated at Home in Lucknow Under Pretext of Arranging a Court Marriage

In a shocking incident late Tuesday evening in Lucknow, two young men on a motorcycle entered the home of a senior advocate, Kanishk Mehrotra, and fatally shot him. The assailants had allegedly approached Mehrotra’s assistant under the guise of seeking legal assistance for a court marriage.

The attack occurred near Cinema Chauraha on the Lucknow Marg, where the advocate lived. According to Girish Chandra, the assistant who was present at the time, the young men expressed their desire to discuss a court marriage and asked to meet with Mr. Mehrotra. As soon as the lawyer appeared to address their request, the men produced a file, quickly drew a gun, and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.

The gunshot alarmed the nearby residents who rushed to the scene. Despite immediate efforts to transport him to a medical college for emergency care, Mehrotra succumbed to his injuries en route.

The local police, led by Superintendent Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, are currently investigating the murder. The motive behind the assassination remains unclear, and a dedicated team has been formed to apprehend the attackers.

The murder sparked outrage among the local legal community. Many lawyers gathered outside Mehrotra’s residence on Tuesday night, and some initiated a protest by blocking the road. The situation was later resolved after about 15 minutes following intervention by senior lawyers and police officials.
