Supreme Court Collegium are Recommends Transfer of Justice Ram Chandra Rao Patil from the HP High Court to the Jharkhand High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Ram Chandra Rao Patil, Chief Justice of Himanchal Pradesh High Court to Telangana High Court. This recommendation comes as part of the ongoing process of judicial appointments and transfers within the Indian judiciary system.

Justice Patil, who is originally from Telangana High Court, is currently Chief Justice of Himanchal Pradesh High Courf and now set to continue his judicial duties in Jharkhand High Court.

The collegium resolution says:

โ€œMr Justice M S Ramachandra Rao is serving as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh since 30 May 2023. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on 29 June 2012. On the bifurcation of the State of Andhra Pradesh he opted for Telangana as his parent High Court. He is a senior Judge, placed at Sl No 26 in the All India Seniority list of High Court Judges, including Chief Justices.

A vacancy in the office of Chief Justice in the High Court of Jharkhand would arise on the retirement of Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on 19 July 2024.

Considering the seniority of Mr Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and the exigencies of the administration of justice, the Collegium considers it appropriate in the public interest to recommend his transfer as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand consequent upon retirement of Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi. The Collegium recommends accordingly.โ€
