CJI Chandrachud Encourages Junior Advocate, Senior Lawyer Shares Touching Anecdote of Senior Chandrachud

In a heartening display of mentorship, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud invited a junior advocate to address the court while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was en route from another courtroom. As the junior began her arguments, CJI Chandrachud encouraged the Solicitor General to allow his junior to continue presenting the case.

This gesture prompted Senior Advocate Raju Ramachandran to share a touching anecdote from his early career. Ramachandran recalled an incident from 48 years ago when he, as a novice lawyer with only two months of experience, appeared before Justice YV Chandrachud, the current CJI’s father. The senior Chandrachud had acknowledged him by name, instilling a sense of confidence in the young advocate.

CJI Chandrachud graciously thanked Ramachandran for sharing the memory, highlighting the lasting impact of such encouraging moments in a lawyer’s career.

This exchange not only showcased the Supreme Court’s commitment to nurturing young talent but also emphasized the continuity of judicial legacy and mentorship across generations.
