In a significant development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will continue to be detained following the Delhi High Court’s decision today to stay the bail previously granted by a trial court. The stay comes in response to an appeal from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which contested the trial court’s decision concerning a money laundering case tied to the Delhi liquor policy.
The decision was announced by Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain of a vacation bench, who sided with the ED’s contention that the trial court had not adequately considered the agency’s arguments during the bail proceedings.
Arvind Kejriwal, who also serves as the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was initially arrested on March 21 over allegations of corruption linked to the liquor policy in Delhi. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail in May, allowing him to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. However, he was required to return to jail on June 2, after the campaign period ended.
