In a pivotal move poised to overhaul the judicial landscape, the Union Law Ministry, under the stewardship of the newly appointed Union Law Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal, unveiled a comprehensive national litigation policy on Tuesday. This initiative is a cornerstone of the Modi 3.0 government’s ambitious 100-day agenda, aimed at expediting the justice delivery system across India.
The policy, meticulously formulated after extensive deliberations and refining multiple drafts over the years, received the minister’s approval shortly after he assumed office, signifying a rapid start to his tenure. Designed to speed up proceedings in the Supreme Court, various high courts, lower judiciary, tribunals, and consumer courts, the policy is a significant stride toward alleviating the chronic issue of case backlogs.
Minister Meghwal, in his statement, highlighted the policy’s alignment with previous efforts under the UPA II regime to enhance judicial efficiency but emphasized that this new framework builds on those foundations with an updated approach. The policy is set to undergo a review by the Union Cabinet shortly, which is expected to provide additional insights and likely endorsements.
