In a recent hearing, the Chhattisgarh High Court has allotted 90 days to address the grievances surrounding the recruitment process for various sub-inspector positions in Chhattisgarh, following multiple writ petitions challenging the process. The positions under scrutiny include Subedar, Sub-Inspector (SI) in various branches such as the Special Branch and Radio, and Platoon Commander, totaling 975 vacancies.
Petitioners have argued that the selection process initiated by the state has several discrepancies, especially concerning adherence to reservation quotas and the categorization in the merit lists. Notably, there were contentions about the preliminary merit list issued by the Professional Examination Board (Vyapam), which allegedly did not comply with the reservation roster, adversely affecting general category candidates.
During the court proceedings, it was highlighted that the recruitment would be subject to the final outcome of these writ petitions, citing a directive from the Supreme Court. The state, represented by Advocate General Sandeep Dubey, presented a sealed report in compliance with the court’s order dated August 23, 2023. The High Court also noted that some responses to the petitions are still pending, for which a three-week extension has been granted to submit the necessary replies.
The legal challenge also extends to the specifics of women’s reservations. Arguments were made that female candidates holding domicile certificates from Chhattisgarh are eligible for a 30% quota, yet discrepancies have arisen in the actual implementation, affecting both male and female candidates’ chances of advancing to the main exam.
