A fast track court has sentenced 16 men to life imprisonment for the murder of local BJP leader Pashupati Nath Singh, who was killed in a violent altercation near his home in 2022. The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Justice Kuldeep Singh.
According to Advocate Prem Prakash Gautam, the court convicted all 16 accused of murder, criminal conspiracy, and rioting before awarding them life terms on Friday.
The incident occurred on the night of October 12, 2022, when Pashupati Nath Singh objected to open drinking at a country liquor shop near his residence. “He advised the youths to refrain, which led to an argument that quickly escalated. Soon, 30 to 40 individuals attacked him with sticks and iron rods,” Gautam said.
Pashupati’s son, Rajan Singh, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion, was also brutally assaulted. Both father and son were rushed to the hospital, where Pashupati Nath Singh was declared dead. Rajan Singh sustained serious injuries and underwent months of medical treatment.
Despite the trauma, Rajan Singh actively pursued the case to ensure justice for his father. Police had originally charged 18 individuals in connection with the case. Of these, 16 were arrested and tried. Proceedings against the remaining two accused are still ongoing.
