In a significant move, the Meerut Bar Association has terminated the membership of 1,346 lawyers for non-payment of membership fees. The decision was taken during an emergency meeting held on Monday at the Subhash Chandra Bose Auditorium. The meeting was presided over by Association President Sanjay Sharma and conducted by General Secretary Rajendra Singh Rana.
According to the Bar Association, the membership of these 1,346 advocates has been terminated with immediate effect as they had failed to deposit their subscription fees since December 2022.
The Association has also issued a stern warning to nearly 1,500 more advocates who have not paid their dues since March 2025. They have been directed to clear their outstanding fees by July 15, 2025, failing which their names will also be struck off from the Bar Association’s membership rolls.
In addition to this action, the Association has also decided to revise the membership fee structure. The minimum annual fee has now been set at ₹1,500. The revised entry fee structure for new memberships is as follows:
- Advocates below the age of 30 years: ₹1,500 (previously ₹1,100)
- Advocates aged 30 to 50 years: ₹5,100 (previously ₹2,150)
- Advocates above 50 years: ₹11,000 (previously ₹12,200 for lifetime membership)
The Bar also confirmed a joint resolution passed on July 4 regarding collaboration between the Meerut Bar and District Bar with the Meerut Central Bar Association.
